The Growlers had a hell of a 2014. Their latest album, Chinese Fountain, won tons of critical praise from nearly everyone (including us), and with good reason: the album is a perfect distillation of the band’s patented “beach-goth” sound. The band take elements of surf-rock, post-punk, and Bakersfield country-rock into something wholly original. The best thing about the album, though, is that it doesn’t seem like the culmination of anything; The Growlers still have a lot more to offer in the future.
