Though certainly hackneyed, there may yet be some truth to the old adage, “good things come to those who wait.” For fans of Dion DiMucci, it’s been over four decades of waiting for this treasure from the vaults—and it’s well worth it. On April 7, Omnivore Recordings will release Recorded Live at the Bitter End, August 1971, a never before issued live performance from the storied Greenwich Village nightclub.

Beginning his career as a teen idol with the Belmonts, DiMucci rose to fame with hits including “The Wanderer” and “Runaround Sue,” later transitioning into a more mature folk style marked by “Abraham, Martin & John.” Over the decades, DiMucci has made an indelible mark on popular music (his likeness was even included on the cover of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band).

Astounding in its simplicity, Recorded Live at the Bitter End, August 1971 features only DiMucci and his acoustic guitar, but with those two ingredients, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer spins gold. Throughout the album, DiMucci plays his own hits as well as a series of covers, from Leonard Cohen’s “Sisters of Mercy” to the Beatles’ “Blackbird.”
