Mumford & Sons Plug In For Their Third Album

mumford-sons-wilder-mindMumford & Sons are going electric. The Americana superstars are releasing a new album, Wilder Mind, this year, and the band have promised to change things up on the new record. According to Marcus Mumford, this meant bringing in full drums and electric instruments, which are indeed a far cry from what fans of the band are used to.

The band began changing things up while on tour for their last album, Babel. “We’d always play new songs during soundchecks, and none of them featured the banjo, or a kick-drum,” Mumford said. “We didn’t say: ‘No acoustic instruments.’ But I think all of us had this desire to shake it up.”

Even so, the band are careful around talk that they’re overhauling their sound. “[The recording sessions] felt completely natural,” said keyboardist/accordionist Ben Lovett. “We chose instruments that played well off each other, rather than consciously trying to overhaul it.”

In the meantime, Mumford & Sons will be heading out on the road for the latest installment of their Gentlemen of the Road tour. This time around, they’ll be doing stop-over events that double as mini-festivals featuring the likes of The Flaming Lips, Alabama Shakes, Foo Fighters, Dawes, Jenny Lewis and more. Full lineups and ticket information can be found here.
