In an interview with Rolling StoneBlack Keys frontman Dan Auerbach announced that he has finished work on a new solo project under the name the Arcs. With both a 7″ single and a full album ready, Auerbach expects to roll the project out over the summer.

The Arcs’ first release will be a 7″ featuring the boxing themed songs “Stay In My Corner” and “Tomato Can.” The single will be released at independent record stores on May 2, the date of the highly anticipated Pacquiao-Mayweather fight. Auerbach is, himself, an amateur boxer.

As for the full length album, Auerbach recorded it in quick loose sessions over the course of two weeks, working with friend and frequent collaborator Leon Michaels. He promises that the album will be “extra weird,” although, coming from a relative traditionalist like Auerbach, it is difficult to know what exactly that means. Perhaps as a clue, Auerbach cites the Grateful Dead’s tendency toward medleys and songs that flow into one another as one of his primary influences for the project. The album will be released some time in the late summer.

In addition to his releases as the Arcs, Auerbach will soon return to the road with the Black Keys, resuming the tour that was cancelled following drummer Patrick Carney’s shoulder injury last year.
