Exclusive: Check Out “The Fall,” Sweet Folk-Pop From Reina del Cid

Reina del CidMidwestern singer/songwriter Reina del Cid cites novelist Virginia Woolf among her primary influences. On first listen, her new song, “The Fall,” doesn’t seem to bear this out, as del Cid sweetly coos about the immensity of falling in love and the simple pleasures of maintaining that love over her band’s pleasant, acoustic shuffle. But upon closer inspection, one realizes that the final verse begins with the lines, “Since my days here are numbered…” evoking the passage of time and inevitably of death in a manner that would not seem out of place in one of Woolf’s novels (or Beyoncé’s hit “XO,” which expresses a similar sentiment).

Del Cid and her band are preparing to release their new album, The Cooling, the culmination of three years of touring, residencies and shows in their hometown of St. Paul, MN. The band backs del Cid’s literary lyrics and sweet singing with gentle, acoustic folk-pop.

The Cooling will be released on June 16. Listen to “The Fall” below:
