Judging by his recent comments on it, the title of Kurt Vile‘s forthcoming album, All Over the Place, is an accurate description of both the album’s sound and the process by which it has been recorded. In an interview with Spin, Vile described the stylistic contents of the album: “It’s got the pretty finger-pickers, it’s got the electric song, it’s got piano songs, which I haven’t really had, there are banjo songs.”

Similarly, the album, which is not yet finished, has been recorded in a number of different studios in Brooklyn, Los Angeles, Athens and, fulfilling Vile’s psychedelic street cred, Joshua Tree. The latter sessions took place at the famed Rancho de la Luna studios and yielded what Vile calls his best song to date. The album will likely feature contributions from Warpaint drummer Stella Mozgawa, sound artist Farmer Dave Scher and Vile’s frequent backing band the Violators.

All Over the Place figures to continue Vile’s recent hot streak of well-received albums, including 2011’s Smoke Ring for My Halo and 2013’s Wakin’ on a Pretty Daze. Vile has kept his summer touring schedule uncharacteristically light as he finishes the album in order to release it sometime this autumn.
