Watch Built To Spill’s Indescribably Odd Video For “Never Be The Same”

Built to Spill announced a spate of tour dates for May.

About three weeks ago, we directed you to Built to Spill‘s premiere of “Never Be the Same” from their new album Untethered Moon. Shortly thereafter, we also directed you to their music video for “Living Zoo,” also from Untethered Moon. Well, the band has released a video for “Never Be the Same” and, in order to understand it, we would suggest that you rewatch the “Living Zoo” video. Or, at least, understand it as much as it is possible to do so.

The video for “Never Be the Same” begins with Built to Spill frontman Doug Martsch repeatedly rewatching a particular scene from the “Living Zoo.” Soon his bandmates and some of the cast of the earlier video arrive for the “Living Zoo” video premiere. The rest of the video revolves around Martsch’s obsession with a character from that earlier video, the foppish, oddly magical Hairy Canary. Eventually, Mr. Canary bursts out of a cardboard cake, much to Martsch’s delight. The rest of the video chronicles their unusual friendship.

All in all, it is a deeply strange yet hilarious video. And the music is classic Built to Spill. Untethered Moon will be released tomorrow. Watch the video for “Never Be the Same” below:
