Sun Might Shine on Me, the new album from Grant Dermody, is a cross-country exploration of the blues. The Seattle based musician made his way down to Louisiana to record with Dirk Powell, pulling in talented friends along the way, all with the goal of exploring and interpreting blues classics from the Appalachia to Texas to the Mississippi Delta.

A Buddhist, Dermody applies his teachings to his musical practice, and is remarkable in his ability to inhabit a wide selection of blues styles with mastery and ease. The first track on Sun Might Shine on Me, “Boll Weevil,” showcases this talent through a blistering harmonica technique that is paired with rich, expressive vocals. The track’s languid, whiskey soaked sound ambles along, never rushed or forced. From the East Coast to the West, all the way down to the Bayou, Dermody is without a doubt doing the old masters proud.

Give “Boll Weevil” a listen below.
