Exclusive: Listen To Haley Slagle’s Eerie Take On “Ain’t That Lonely Yet”

haleyslagle1PROn West Virginian singer-songwriter Haley Slagle’s upcoming album, Liar’s Best Friend,  nine tracks of haunting melodies and intimate lyrics take residence. One of the tracks, “Ain’t That Lonely Yet”, is Slagle’s unique take on country artist Dwight Yoakam’s original version.

The song tackles the heavy subject of knowing when to let go in love, thus having to convince oneself that they “ain’t that lonely yet”. Paired with these poignant lyrics, Slagle’s interpretation goes even further, as her emotional voice reverberates in the silences between the uncomplicated, classic synth sounds, which Slagle says were used because they “wanted to take it in a completely different direction. That’s why [they] chose the stark arrangement with the synthesizer, rather than something more traditional.” The effect is an eerie one. Gorgeous, cosmic instrumentation softly accompany Slagle’s memorable voice and give way to chilling stillness that remains until soaring vocals or steady beats cut in and slash the silence with sound.

“Ain’t That Lonely Yet” is a bittersweet ode to both ourselves and the people we once loved. Despite its emotional burden, Slagle approaches the subject with an admirable musical grace and artistry.

  1. You are a very talented vocalist as well as musician. Praying for you at this difficult time
with the passing of your Dad. Perhaps your fond memories of one so dear to the heart can result in the writing of an amazing “heart-felt” song.

Sincerely, Patti Batten (mother of the amazing music producer Jeremy Batten)
