If the words Free Summer Music Festival make your ears perk up, then keep on listening! Now add New York City and Waterfront, and we’d better have your full attention.

Enter the fifth anniversary of the Lowdown Hudson Music Fest, which takes place along the Hudson River waterfront just south of TriBeCa at Brookfield Place on July 14th and 15th. The Fest this year will feature four tremendous acts: O.A.R. and Ryan Bingham on the first night, and the Word and the Wood Brothers on night two.

Expanding beyond their usual roster of blues musicians, Lowdown’s night one features the reggae leaning rock band O.A.R., known for wowing crowds with their lengthy jam sessions and Ryan Bingham, the talented Americana singer/songwriter who won an Academy Award, Golden Globe and a Grammy for his work with T. Bone Burnett on the soundtrack to the 2009 film Crazy Heart.

Night two branches out again, kicking off with the Word, a supergroup joining members of the North Mississippi Allstars with guitarist Robert Randolph to create “improvisational rock-gospel,” and continuing the celebration with the roots, folk and blues blending Wood Brothers.

The event is completely free, and no tickets or reservations are required, but doors open at five and it’s bound to get crowded, so head over early to stake out a good spot for the festivities.
