Nashville-based trio ChessBoxer will be releasing their new EP, Apollo, on September 25th. For more than a decade, Matt Menefee and Ross Holmes have been creating music while highlighting the sounds of the fiddle and banjo. The duo quickly became key players in expanding the acoustic/bluegrass music genre. As of February 2015, they added upright bass player, Royal Masat, who has been collaborating with Menefee and Holmes for many years. Collectively the musicians have performed with Mumford & Sons, Dan Auerbach, Bruce Hornsby, Alison Krauss and Old Crow Medicine Show.

Apollo features four songs from their upcoming early 2016 full-length album produced by Charlie Peacock (Civil Wars, Switchfoot). “The Devil & Sally Jones” is a traditional fiddle set with strong vocals coming in two-thirds of the way through, proving that lyrics aren’t always needed for a high-energy, foot-stomping good time.

Listen to “The Devil & Sally Jones” below. ChessBoxer is currently on the road with Warren Haynes for his Ashes and Dust tour. Haynes discovered the trio through their work with Bela Fleck. Tour dates can be found on their website.
