Elmore Magazine cannot say enough good things about Shemekia Copeland. The daughter of legendary bluesman Johnny Copeland, the junior Copeland has been making the festival rounds and astounding crowds with her powerhouse vocals since 1998, and her talent and fanbase has only grown throughout the years. Her latest release, Outskirts of Love, found her back in partnership with Alligator Records, the label that put out her first album, Turn Up The Heat!, when the singer was still just a teen.

In case you’re wondering what her credentials are, Copeland has won Down Beat magazine’s Rising Star award for the Blues as well as three Blues Music Awards, garnering even more nominations, and if that doesn’t impress you,  well, she’s no less than the crowned Queen of the Blues, a title conferred to her at the 2011 Chicago Blues Festival by Koko Taylor’s daughter, Cookie Taylor.

She’ll head to New York’s City Winery for her Outskirts of Love album release, and you can purchase tickets here. When else can you say you’ve seen a Queen up close and personal?
