Slowtown Now! is the latest release from British singer-songwriter, Holly Golightly. The 12-track album proves that Golightly can keep on keeping on with over 25 years in the business and 20+ albums under her belt. This is Golightly’s latest full band effort, coming after a ten-year break (Slowly But Surely, 2004). In between, she relocated to Georgia and recorded as Holly Golightly and the Brokeoffs, bringing rootsy, country sounds to songs. With Slowtown Now!, Golightly reunites her UK band.

Track one, “Seven Wonders,” is the perfect song to kick-off the album. Listen closely. Is she really just trying to tell us that no matter what you’ve heard and how many times you’ve heard it, she’s not singing it again? She’s back and this is nothing old, so sit down and listen up.

Every intro packs a punch to draw in the listener. Looking for a big sound to blast, something to do a jazzy slow dance to in the middle of your living room, background music for your Beach Blanket Bingo party, or just hoping to find a song that “gets what you’re going through right now”? This is it. Stop searching.

Jenny Lewis or Zooey Deschanel come to mind here, even though they are the ones inspired by Golightly. Fans of those female artists who may have never heard Golightly before will want to give this a chance. Those who know Golightly well and were longing for her full band sound, welcome back.

“There’s nothing contrived, it’s just a bunch of friends who love playing together,” Golightly has said. It shows. After such a long hiatus, this album is just some old friends reconnecting and having a good time. The perfect reason to create music.
