It’s not at all surprising that Tommy Castro is a six-time Blues Music Award winner. Over the course of a four-decade career, Castro, along with his band, the Painkillers, has routinely distinguished himself as the master of funky blues. In the words of his hometown paper, the San Francisco Chronicle, this music is “funky Southern soul, big city blues and classic rock…silvery guitar licks that simultaneously sound familiar and fresh.”
