Exclusive: Relax To Roots Music With Andy Ferrell’s New Track “High Water, Low Bridge”

Growing up to a folk guitarist father in Boone, North Carolina (home of the late Doc Watson, country artist and guitar mastermind), it’s no wonder that young singer-songwriter Andy Ferrell would share those genes. At just 23 years old, Ferrell has fully embraced the beauty and talent that surrounds him right in the Blue Ridge Mountains where Appalachian music thrives. On his upcoming record, At Home and In Nashville, releasing in just two days, Ferrell compares the old-timey roots music of North Carolina and the crafted country of Nashville.

“Directly inspired from some of [his] favorite piedmont blues guitarists” (including Blind Boy Fuller), Ferrell’s track “High Water, Low Bridge” off the upcoming record, is his very own flood song. The short track features a quiet, uncomplicated instrumental plucking, allowing Ferrell’s vocals to be its focus. His rich, gritty voice is a vehicle for his songwriting, throatily singing lyrics like “I don’t wanna do wrong/I don’t know how to do right/Maybe that’s why I’m sitting in this jailhouse tonight” that mimic the straightforward, no-cares type of writing that other great folk artists have mastered. Ferrell breathes roots music–it translates to his guitar playing, vocals, and songwriting in such a way that his future music already feels timeless.
