Exclusive: Stream Rosu Lup’s Sonic Treasure Hunt Of A Debut Album

Rosu LupLike Pennsylvania, the state they proudly call home, Rosu Lup is a band that contains multitudes— both rural and urban, deeply rooted in history, and yet on the cusp of exciting things to come. An auspicious Craigslist ad brought together the four men who call themselves Rosu Lup, and set them to work on Is Anything Real, an album that promises to catapult them to national recognition and firmly plant the Philadelphia music scene on the map (preorder it HERE).

Today Elmore is exclusively streaming the band’s impressive debut in advance of the record’s March 18th release. The album is a head-spinning mélange of influences, sliding from the massive, orchestrated compositions of the National (“Halloween Ghost” is exemplary of this), to dense folk-meets-synth tunes, overlaid with the vulnerable, vibrant tremble of a lead singer who calls to mind Ryan Adams. Listening to Is Anything Real is like a sonic treasure hunt, with new bits of musical ingenuity bobbing to the surface on each new listen: the drums rolls and muted trumpet of “Guard Your Name,” the haunting backing vocals of “Roanoke,” the electric, Tom Petty inflection of the title track, the echoing, far away sound of “The Astronaut,” the list goes on.

Unspool Is Anything Real for yourself below, and catch the guys on a string of East Coast tour dates through March:
