Facing an arduous journey and still coming out on top, Austin Americana rocker Jeremy Nail shares a murky and mysterious track in the video for “My Mountain.” An alt-roots infused anthem from Nail’s album of the same name, “My Mountain” couches self-defeatism in place of an expedition though self-discovery and the dusty trails of Texas.

Nail, who has slung guitar with the likes of Alejandro Escovedo and Dustin Welch, found himself taking a break from touring after a cancer-related issue in 2013 led him to get his leg amputated. However, Nail was quickly back on the scene last year due to guidance and mentorship of Escovedo, who produced My Mountain. What transpired was a thoughtful and enigmatic return for a troubadour that had the odds stacked against him.

“The video was shot on HWY 183 in between Austin and my hometown, Albany, Texas. My director Reid Connell and I wanted to find some old abandoned buildings and bits of nostalgia that represented the past in a sort of haunting way. I guess you could say the character in the song and video is me, trying to come to terms with my past & present, and getting back up on my feet again.”

Nail’s sound is superbly profound, dancing along the lines of Ryan Bingham and a Stetson-clad Beck. “My Mountain” is a visually entrancing ode to the seemingly bygone era of triumph in the face of trouble within roots rock. One finds Nail experiencing less of a comeback and more of a ending to a detour.
