If the saying is true that nothing succeeds like success, Benjamin Scheuer has another hit on his hands. On June 3rd, the singer/songwriter, guitar player and playwright will release his debut album, Songs From The Lion, featuring music from his one-man musical memoir, The Lion, a play that garnered him heaps of critical praise and won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Solo Performance in the U.S. and the Off-West End Award for Best New Musical in the U.K.

When Scheuer first began playing gigs in New York City, he also decided to try his hand at songwriting, and it turned into a passion that stuck, allowing him to delve into the painful truths of his present and past. “I was singing about my dad, who died when I was thirteen,” he recalls, “singing about a romantic relationship I was in that went well until it went bad. Singing about my diagnosis with, treatment for, and cure of advanced stage cancer.” Scheuer’s unabashed honestly has payed off, landing him in the company of Mary Chapin Carpenter, who  wrote the album’s liner notes, Grammy Award-winning sound engineer Pat Dillett, and Josh Freese and Chris Morrissey, who added their talents to the record on drums and bass.

Today Elmore is premiering “Lovin’ You Will Be Easy,” a song about the singer/songwriter’s love affair with a woman he meets on the subway. The track is a testament to Scheuer’s observational style and penchant for wit, as he croons with a wink, “I bet loving you will be easy… no matter how difficult you try to be.” Scheuer showcases his skillful balance of catchy pop choruses with hints of folk and blues styling, and despite the effortless rasp of his voice, he plays the everyman– immediately relatable. As he strums his guitar and spouts his simple yet meaningful lyrics about the (sometimes laughable) trials of love, you’ll soon find yourself tempted to belt along, lost in the moment with him.

Preorder Songs from The Lion via iTunes and Amazon starting this Friday and catch Scheuer on June 10th at the Rubin Museum of Art’s “Naked Soul” Concert Series (tickets here). In the mean time, give “Lovin’ You Will Be Easy” a listen below.
