Northside Festival Prepares Its Annual North Brooklyn Take Over With Brian Wilson, Kacey Musgraves and More!

northsideIt’s tough enough just to hang on in the wild world of the music festival industry, but seven years in, Northside Media Group’s annual Festival isn’t just surviving, it’s thriving, and ready to bring another year of Music, Innovation and Content to North Brooklyn.

2016’s Fest will kick off on June 6th, with the music lineup running over the second weekend, from the 9th to the 12th. As the fest boasts, it takes place in “pretty much every venue, concert space and screening room in the Williamsburg and Greenpoint neighborhoods of Brooklyn,” from beloved holes in wall like Shea Stadium, Pete’s Candy Store and Acheron to more established joints including Baby’s All Right, Brooklyn Bowl and the Music Hall of Williamsburg. McCarren Park is the Festival’s main hub, where badge pickup will take place and headlining shows will be held.

Northside pressA testament to Northside’s popularity as a “discovery” festival, the weekend’s lineup will include over 400 small name musicians alongside the more recognizable names, and with venues in such close proximity, fest-goers can hop from place to place, stumbling on bands they didn’t even know were missing from their life (and iTunes). But for those who aren’t interested in boldly going where no listener has gone before, the Fest has its fair share of major headliners, including Brian Wilson, who will be performing Pet Sounds in its entirety, as well as country-pop star Kacey Musgraves, Conor Oberst and Wolf Parade.

A nod to its big sister in Austin, the festival also hosts an impressive lineup of speakers on innovation, including designer Rebecca Minkoff, the CEO of Paypal and GE’s Global Leader of Innovation. Meanwhile, the two days of Content “uncover what’s next in original video content,” with appearances from director Andrew Jarecki and Chad Mumm, the VP of Vox Entertainment. Over the second weekend of the Festival, Bedford Avenue is also turned into a living museum, with interactive installations and sculptures lining the street.
