Mail the Horse is a five piece grunge/gospel/country/blues/rock group, booze-soaked and ready to blow your mind from their basement in Bushwick, Brooklyn. The quintet, made up of bandmates Donny Amidon (guitar, vocals), Michael Hesslein (guitar, keys, vocals), Brendan Smith (bass), Andrew Weaver (drums) and Chris May (pedal steel), has played shows with Dr. Dog, Guster, Hiss Golden Messenger, Blackfoot Gypsies and more. For their  latest EP, the guys stretched their chops to the limit, doing their best to channel the raw energy of the Stones and the feel-good, populist rock vibes of Springsteen. Magnolia, out on June 10th, was recorded with Hunter Davidson at Business District Recording in Western New York.

Today, Elmore premiers “Backlash,” the first track off the band’s upcoming release. This cosmic country track is decadently washed in reverb, and beautifully raw in all the right places. Ready just in time for summer, the track is laid back enough for road trips with friends or grooving into the night. But no matter the setting, the mumbled croon of the lead singer and returning wail of pedal steel will pull you into its blissed out, country vortex.

Catch Mail the Horse on tour, and give “Backlash” a spin below.
