Exclusive: Tall Tales and the Silver Lining Pays Tribute To EmmyLou Harris On Upcoming Record

to emmylouI think most Elmoristas would agree that there’s no such thing as too much EmmyLou Harris. A band of up-and-coming musicians from Los Angeles certainly feel that way, so they banded together to create To Emmylou, a tribute to the legendary country singer. A fitting homage to an artist known for her skills in reinterpretation as well as her original work, the 11 covers run the gamut from folk to blues to gospel.

Not only does the album give a collective of up-and-comers a chance to show the world what a range of talent the southern California indie-music scene has to offer, it also marks the debut record for Fleeing Ghost Records. Warren Sroka, who founded the label with his longtime musical collaborators David Kailish Irelan and David Sicher, says of the record, “To Emmylou does not represent her greatest hits, but rather songs chosen by each artist’s individual attachment to the material itself.” The bands featured, he adds, “were fans first.”

tall talesToday, Elmore is premiering just one of those unique covers, Tall Tales and the Silver Lining’s take on “Boulder To Birmingham.” For songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Trevor Beld Jimenez, Tall Tales and the Silver Lining is a musical project that allows him to experiment with musicians, poets, filmmakers and fine artists. His take on “Boulder To Birmingham” transforms the yearning waltz into an upbeat indie-rock jam. His punchy delivery, offset with guitar, hit the lyrics in a playful way, doing double duty to pay dues to EmmyLou while also transforming the track and claiming it as his own.

As if you needed any more reasons to snag a copy when it hits shelves on June 3rd, twenty percent of all proceeds will be donated to animal rescue charities, a nod to Bonaparte’s Retreat, Harris’ animal welfare charity. If you’re nearby, make sure to head to the record release at the Hi Hat in LA on June 4th, and grab a copy of the album on the website here.

  1. Is it possible to get this recording “To Emmylou” on CD or vinyl? I so wanted to go to the release party, but was out of town. So hoping to get a copy compatible with my antiquated technology. Looking forward to hearing from you!
