The southern rock sound has been blowing up lately, and Boo Ray is kicking it up a notch or ten. Starting with “Redneck Rock & Roll,” the opener on his latest release, Sea of Lights, Ray introduces the listener to a fine blend of honky-tonk, Nashville nights down Broadway, seedy Los Angeles clubs and hints of deep soul. With such an eclectic crash of genres, every song is an impressive surprise.

Track two, “Sea of Lights,” the standout on this album, presents a beautiful story that features the city of Los Angeles, where Ray has spent plenty of time, as a character. In fact, Ray recorded the entire album in Los Angeles with producer Noah Shain at his White Buffalo Studio. There, Shain was able to perfect the popular Muscle Shoals sounds for Sea of Lights.

This album — Ray’s third, and the follow-up to 2013’s Six Weeks in a Motel — saw Ray bring together a “close group of LA friends” including Steve Ferrone (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers), Smith Curry (Taylor Swift), and Paul Ill (Christina Aguilera).

With Sea of Lights, Boo Ray brings a superb southern sound to the coast of California for ten fun songs filled with hot instrumentals and wailin’ vocals.
