You’ve probably already heard the Lazy Suns. Made up of Marc Clayton, Brad Jarvis, Rick Morse, Jeff Sohn and Larry Winchester, this five piece band released their first EP, but if  you’re a fan of the Discovery Channel’s hit TV series Deadliest Catch, you’re already listening to the song “Troubled Sea.” They’ve also had some luck in 2016 with National Geographic channel’s The Yard, where you’ve heard “Find Your Way.”

This album kicks off with “Bottom of the Hill,” a twangy slide guitar number that has a very cool, dark tone. “Cool Apple Green” could be from the Band, with a folksy easy beat. The most fun jumpin’ song on the album has to be “Jezebel Blues,” with great guitar work.

The Lazy Suns describe their sound as, “If you took the Flying Burrito Brothers, the Beatles, Townes Van Zandt, Tom Petty and Hank Williams and put them all together in a stewing pot to simmer, you would have the Lazy Suns.” It’s all true, and then some. Singing and writing duties on this six-song release are split between Jeff Sohn, who plays bass, guitar, keyboards and percussion, and Marc Clayton, who plays guitar, mandolin and harmonica. Nick Parslow is on drums, and Ed Jahn holds down the lead guitar, while Rick Morse—the real gem here—rises above with sweet accents on pedal steel, slide guitar and Dobro.

The Lazy Suns feature more than one great songwriter and vocalist. Slide guitar and beautifully balanced harmonies set the Lazy Suns apart from the rest. Here’s hoping they decide to go on tour in 2017. It would be great to see if they sound as good live as they do in the studio.
