Toronto & Montreal based singer/songwriter, Daniela Andrade, captivated Chicago in an intimate show at the Lincoln Hall on November 22nd. Chicago was Daniela’s last stop on her first major tour since she began to gain recognition in 2008 for her soulful rendition of covers and original songs. Andrade is known for her untrammeled vocals and stripped down acoustic covers that she posted on YouTube. Currently, Andrade has accrued over 300 million streams and built a strong international following comprised of over 1 million YouTube subscribers.

The concert took place at the Lincoln Hall, a historic 1912 building. The venue is designed in two sections: a bar/restaurant with an inconspicuous set of doors that give way to the auditorium, stage and a small bar. Doors opened at 7:30 p.m., and the audience welcomed Chicago based singer/songwriter, Gia Margaret, who opened the show with a set that reflected her enthusiastic and soulful melodies. After Gia’s set and a short break, Daniela took the stage dressed in a sophisticated and minimalistic black outfit. Armed with an acoustic guitar and her enthralling vocals, Daniela began to melt her audience one song at a time. The set began with a few acoustic covers including Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy,” Drake’s “Hold on We’re Going Home” and Gorillaz’ “Feel Good Inc.”

In between sporadic “I love yous” from fans in the audience and “I love you too” replies from Andrade, she shared stories of life on tour, thanked her sponsors and fans for their support and snapped a picture from the stage. Andrade also mentioned that she is currently writing new material for an upcoming album, and performed two original unreleased songs titled “Badly Programmed” and “Sugar.” Andrade alternated between electric and acoustic guitar, interacted with her audience and performed the latest songs from her visual EP, Shore. She created a welcoming, warm and intimate setting, full of electrifying renditions of some of her most popular YouTube covers, like Radiohead’s “Creep” (10 million views) and the Pixies’ “Where is my Mind” (1.8 million views). Those in attendance witnessed an intimate evening, in which Andrade sprinkled the audience with her charm and delightfully calm demeanor. The show was a celebration of the end of a tour that came to be thanks to our digital age, one that allowed Andrade to grow close to her fans, release new music and grow the foundation of her international audience as an independent artist and rising star.
