Holidaze for Christmas and New Years with Jonny Rosch & Friends

Jonny Rosch joined some of his friends for a Christmas extravaganza at the already-extravagantly-decorated Cutting Room. Bev Leslies led the many rowdy elves, a mix of late-night TV stars and gold record-selling artists like Christine Ohlman, Jimmy Vivino, Cyndi Lauper, John Putnam, Shawn Pelton and several others who offered up a night of music and unfiltered revelry.

A combination of out-of-control Christmas party and a jam of talented good friends trying to outsing one another, the set list mixed obscure songs with completely new arrangements of a few old tunes, keeping the overflow crowd (including numerous A-list attendees) on their toes.  Lauper’s version of “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” Leslies’ triple-time “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer,” “Rockin’ Robin” and the ensemble finale, William Bell’s “Everyday Will Be Like A Holiday (When My Baby Comes Home)” all sparkled like the Rockefeller Center tree.

Rosch himself predictably provided another show-stopper, this time with a costumed version of Gamble and Huff’s “Me and Mrs. Jones” (“we got a thing going on”), reworked as “Me and Mrs. Claus.” Arriving onstage first as the back-chimney man and singing sexy lyrics like “She’s sliding down my North Pole,” Rosch then returned dressed as the cuckholded Santa, who vocalized his suspicions in a Barry White basso profundo. No milk and cookies for that bearded dude.

If you missed Christmas, it’s not too late for holiday cheer. Rosch will close out the challenging insanity of 2016 with delicious insanity on New Year’s Eve, at i Trulli Restaurant, in New York City. With John Putnam, Sue Williams and Warren Odze—and who knows who else—look for great music, great food, copious libations and—as the evening progresses—probably decreasingly stylish dancing.
