Trevor Sewell is a Brit, originally from England’s North East, a land that gave rise to Eric Burden and the Animals back in the day and that remains steeped in dour, gritty realism, a blues heartland in the UK. More importantly, Sewell is a former sideman who took the plunge by moving to the USA a few years ago and, despite the overwhelming competition out there in his adopted land, making it as a soloist and frontman. No mean feat, for sure.

After five years Stateside, numerous slogging around the country on tour and almost twenty international awards, Sewell remains an optimist and has successfully established himself as an important figure in the US blues world with his first solo release, ‘Calling Your Name’ scoring a number one and sitting at the top of the American Blues Scene charts for many weeks.

‘Calling Nashville,’ his latest release, hi-lights his strength as both a songwriter and guitarist, crossing genres with ease and assurance that find Sewell ringing the changes from straight, full-on rockfish-blues and R&B through modern Americana with touches and flourishes that will find a welcome in Music City itself. Subtitled, ‘An Americana Adventure,’ the eleven tracks are expertly framed, formed and delivered by a guy clearly on the rise and on the way to true success. Janis Ian guests on a couple of tracks bringing her own quality and talent to the mix.

Sewell seems to be on an absolute winner here, with an album that genuinely works on almost every level and proves just how talented he really can be and, on this evidence, clearly is.
