Premiere: Michael Logen finds Sweet Salvation

Singer/songwriter adds beauty to CDs and TVs

Grammy-nominated songwriter Michael Logen has had success on and off stage with his heartfelt indie-folk songs and engaging vocals. Most of us have heard Logen, whose song “Couldn’t Ask for a Better Friend” is the soundtrack to a Folgers Coffee commercial airing during the winter Olympics, and his songs, performed by others, on TV shows such as Nashville, Suits, Parenthood, and The Fosters. The Greencards earned a Grammy nomination for Sweetheart of the Sun, whose tracklist included Logen’s “Ocean Floor;” Kelly Clarkson cut Logen’s “Breaking Your Own Heart” on her Grammy-winning record Stronger, and the recently-released feature film Forever My Girl features his “Wild And Free” track.

Solo records like Logen’s most recent CD, New Medicine, show the full range of his abilities, pairing his lyric-driven songwriting with acoustic-based arrangements, sweeping pop hooks, lovely vocals, and cameos from artists like Liz Longley, Kim Richey and Ruby Amanfu. Logen will tour throughout the spring while also recording for his follow-up to New Medicine. The upcoming album will have a stripped-back sound much like his solo shows.

You can hear “Sweet Salvation,” here at Elmore before  it’s released to the world; it will be  featured in the February 27th episode of The Fosters on the Disney/ABC Freeform-TV channel.

Michael talked a bit about the how the song’s feel came about. “’Sweet Salvation’ feels to me a bit like a song for the wilderness within each of us,” he said.  “It was written and recorded at a piano looking out over the mountains in California with my friends Daniel Ahearn and Lindsey Marcus.  The landscape surrounding us when we recorded it found its way into the spaciousness in the production and the lyrics.”
