Premiere: Land of Color with a gentle wake up song

Morning Song, about a new day

Denver, Colorado, South Africa, California, and Montana were important places to Thomas Ewing and Gary Rea before the two brought their families to make their homes in Franklin, Tennessee. These two men from opposite sides of the earth—California and South Africa—each found a different but likeminded musical partner. Sharing their experiences in vastly disparate parts of the world, they co-wrote music with a sound as unique as the men themselves.

A mix of South Africa and North America, Land of Color references the vibrant mix of African rhythms, catchy melodies and tight harmonies, a new sound to present their stories.

The two explore quirky musical ideas hidden in their brains, and “Morning Song” snuck in exactly that way. The two men got together to track some other tunes, only to stumble upon this beautiful song about being in the moment. They ditched the original plans for the session and instead wrote and recorded “Morning Song.”

Gary Rea told Elmore, “Sometimes in a physical world it is hard to believe that we are part of a bigger plan. However, looking at nature and the beauty of creation around us helps us see that this is true. It’s like we are constantly being pursued by a love that is so much bigger than ourselves. Even though we can’t fully comprehend it and don’t always understand it, it’s hard to deny.

Thomas added, “The lyrics in the song ‘Looking at the flowers grow…’ is a reminder that we are not in charge of the process of life, but a part of it. Even the title speaks to those first quiet moments when we wake up. We can create that peaceful time for positive thinking, faith, and trust before we allow any anxiety or stress to take over.”

Enjoy “Morning Song,” 4:14 of beauty and trust.
