Answer: The first Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony was held on January 23, 1986 in New York City. The original inductees included Chuck Berry, James Brown, Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, Fats Domino, the Everly Brothers, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, and Elvis Presley. The city of Cleveland, Ohio, was chosen as the site for the museum to honor DJ Alan Freed, the man considered responsible for bringing rock 'n' roll music to the general public as well as giving providing it with its name. The museum opened on September 2, 1995.
