Question One: Between 1958 and 1977, Neil Sedaka hit the Billboard Top 100 singles chart 29 times. Nine of his songs made it into the Top 10 and three went to the top spot. What were his three number one singles? Which one included background vocals by Elton John?
Answer: Neil Sedaka hit the number one position on Billboard Magazine with:

“Breaking Up Is Hard to Do” (1962)
“Laughter in the Rain” (1974)
“Bad Blood” (1975)

Elton John provided background vocals on “Bad Blood.” Also, “Breaking Up Is Hard to Do” became Neil's last Top 10 hit when it reached number five early in 1976. Of course, many of Neil's songs were written for other artists who turned them into hit records.

Question Two: Before forming the Allman Brothers Band, possibly the seminal jam band of all time, Duane Allman worked as a studio musician in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. In 1968 he caught the attention of Eric Clapton and Jerry Wexler of Atlantic Records because of his guitar work on the cover of a Beatles' song. What was the song and who was the artist?
Answer: In November of 1968, Duane Allman recorded a guitar solo for Wilson Pickett's version of “Hey Jude.” After hearing the solo, Jerry Wexler bought Duane's recording contract. He played as a session musician for many Atlantic artists, including a stunning solo on Aretha's version of  “The Weight.” The rest, as they say, is history.
