Jazz Foundation of America’s LOFT PARTY is “A Night For The Soul”

One week before we Party, party, party!

The Jazz Foundation of America, long the savior of many a musician, sure knows how to party.

This month, the JFA’s Loft Party will honor a number of performers, including a Lifetime Achievement Award to drummer Roy Haynes, whose 70+-year career defined many jazz works and helped define the John Coltrane Quartet sound. Wyclef Jean, Pharoah Sanders Quartet with Benito Gonzalez, Nat Reeves, and Marcus Gilmore will perform. Normally an event would quit there, but…

That will be followed by a tribute to New Orleans icons Dr. John, Dave Bartholomew, and Art Neville, with Cyril Neville of the Neville Brothers, Zigaboo Modeliste of The Meters, and “The Prince of New Orleans” Davell Crawford performing.

Then, the 50th Anniversary of the “In a Silent Way/Bitches Brew” Sessions featuring Wallace Roney with Miles Davis Alumni Lenny White, John Scofield, Darryl Jones, and Bernard Wright, and….

Performances by The Bertha Hope Quintet (playing the music of Elmo Hope), Chicago Blues Guitar Hero Melvin Taylor, our own Harlem Blues Queen, Sweet Georgia Brown, and a DJ set by Binky Griptite, of Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings.

As ever, Danny Glover and Michael Imperioli host a program put together by Artistic Director (and drummer/producer) Steve Jordan (SNL, David Letterman, John Mayer Trio, The Voss).

With four hours of continuous music, food and drink, it’s already a nomination for Party of the Year, and they haven’t announced the surprise guests.

If you’ll be unavoidably out of the country on that date, you can still contribute to JFA’s social work services (which provide housing assistance, pro bono medical care, and emergency financial support to musicians and their families) and/or the JFA performance programs (which create steady work for underemployed artists and reach approximately 80,000 public school children and seniors in elder care).

The JFA heals with creative solutions and love. Let’s all do the same. CONTRIBUTE
