Next week, the White House will host a “Memphis Soul” concert paying tribute to the city often called the “Cradle of Music.” The concert, which will be webcast live as well as broadcast on PBS, will probably end up being one of the best concerts of the year, if the lineup is any indication.

Al Green, Charlie Musselwhite, Ben Harper, Alabama Shakes, and Mavis Staples will be among the many performers paying tribute to the great music of Memphis under the musical direction of Booker T. Jones; his fellow MG Steve Cropper will also be performing at the event. More pop-leaning performers like Justin Timberlake (a Memphis native) and Queen Latifah will also be at the event.

As longtime fans of the musical heritage of Memphis, we here at Elmore are thrilled that such an event is taking place, especially when so many great musicians like Musslewhite and Cropper are involved. Any fan of American music needs to see these masters ply their trade.

“In Performance At The White House: Memphis Soul” will air on PBS stations on April 16th at 8:00 p.m.
