Alt-country has its fair share of iconoclasts, but few deliberately march to the beat of their own drum the way Robbie Fulks does. Equal parts smart-aleck and confessional singer/songwriter, the Chicago native’s work places a refreshing emphasis on songcraft above all else. His latest album, Gone Away Backward, is yet another collection of fine songs, demonstrating Fulks’ ever-evolving songwriting abilities. Robbie’s latest tour finds him in New York supported by the like-minded Stephen Clair Trio. It’s sure to be a rockin’ good time.
