Since July, 1959, the Newport Folk Festival has been home to incredible performers who continue to make great strides in the music world. The festival originally began as a counterpart to the previously established Newport Jazz Festival as a way to showcase the genres that the Jazz Fest left out, featuring performances by folk, blues, country, bluegrass, and folk-rock musicians. In the 1990s the festival expanded to encompass contemporary genres including alternative country and indie folk.

This year’s festival took place on July 22, 23 and 24th, and included stellar performances from dozens of artists, including the Arcs, Alabama Shakes, Norah Jones, Father John Misty, and Patti Smith to name a few. Kyra Kverno was there to capture every moment of the magical weekend.
