Depeche Mode presented their Global Spirit Tour Saturday night at Madison Square Garden, the first of two sold out nights. It’s been almost three years to the date since they last stopped in NYC for a headline show during the Delta Machine Tour. As the lights went out, “Revolution,” by the Beatles blasted through the PA system and the crowd as a whole stood on its feet; so began a massive 22 song setlist, leaning mostly on new material from Spirit as well as songs from nine other albums, and a fitting brilliant cover of David Bowie’s “Heroes.” The show included all the hits from Songs Of Faith And Devotion and of course Enjoy The Silence, Personal Jesus and World In My Eyes off Violator. Dave Gahan graced the stage like a ghost, effortless and haunting in both deliveries of his vocals and overall stage presence and the fans responded in spades.

All in all, a huge singalong night at the Garden; the fans got what they came for and an additional stunning LED backdrop integrated with perfectly-designed video art and beautiful lighting that help set the mood for what was a truly memorable night.
