Premiere: Rhythm section Dry Johnson sets the beat

A gulp from Fountain of Youth on Long Live Them Blues

Dry Johnson is bassist Terry Dry and drummer Matthew Robert Johnson, the powerhouse rhythm section backing award-winning guitarslinger Mike Zito, and on their new release, Long Live Them Blues, Vol. 1, Zito plays guitar and sings on several tracks of the new disc. Matthew’s drumming is strong and immense, while Terry’s bass playing is solid and straightforward. Together they make a sound that is large and tight, round and moving, and . Dry Johnson has  developed a following, a few of whom also contributed to the release.

Special guests on their debut include guitarists John Del Toro Richardson, Mighty Orq and James Wilhite, harmonica ace Steve Krase, beloved Houston musicians Kevin “Snit” Fitzpatrick and Annika Chambers on vocals. Legendary singer Trudy Lynn, too, has contributed, and Terry Dry and Matthew Johnson told Elmore how Lynn came to do this particular tune:

“‘Long Live Them Blues’ is a tribute to all of the great blues artists that have come out of Houston, Texas,” says Terry Dry. “Miss Trudy Lynn is the reigning Queen of Houston Blues,” adds Matthew Johnson. “We love Houston, the blues, and you. Enjoy the video.”
