Premiere: Birdsong At Morning

Celebrating Signs and Wonders

Thought-provoking and soul-baring, Birdsong At Morning’s music spins elegant tapestries of sound, words, and melodies. Singer Alan Williams holds a full-time position as Chair of the music department at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, an historic town where Birdsong At Morning draws much of its inspiration. The band’s name comes from a 19th century Robert Louis Stevenson poem.

Williams writes and sings the songs, creates the string arrangements, conducts the orchestra, co-engineers, produces and mixes the albums as well as scripts, directs, and edits the band’s music videos. He leads the collaborative effort between himself and his bandmates, guitarist Darleen Wilson and bassist Greg Porter, as well as a host of new and old collaborators.

With their masterful new album, Signs and Wonders, Birdsong At Morning is poised to make their national debut. Of this title-track video, “Signs and Wonders,” Williams told Elmore

“The song is about finding joy and beauty in the small and unexpected things around us. The title phrase is Biblical, but I first heard it muttered by Tommy Lee Jones in the film, No Country for Old Men. We wanted the video to celebrate the first day of spring. It features the work of Savannah Barkley, a Rhode Island-based artist who does environmental sculptures, and who created the magical flip book seen throughout the video. The middle section was supposed to evoke the desert, but it snowed a few inches the night before. Welcome to New England!”

Birdsong at Morning is Alan Williams (vocals and guitar), Darleen Wilson (guitar and vocals) and Greg Porter (bass and vocals).
