From Canada comes Holly Hyatt, a young lady with one of those surprisingly spirited releases that simply crosses musical divides with an understated simplicity and style. Funky, blues-infused stuff, Hyatt’s soulful delivery is nicely matched by some stinging soul-based backing. Neatly pitched, softly under-currented waves of horns and driving drums push the twelve-track release along with an effortless ease and beauty.

Hyatt is one of those young blues singers who is likely to be compared to Bonnie Raitt, with an equally fervent voice and vocal delivery that always works her music hard and clean, with just the right raw touch around the edges. Already picking up awards back home in Canada, Hyatt has already built an enviable pedigree, having worked alongside the likes of the late Leon Russell, Colin James, Ruthie Foster and the Black Heritage Singers, among a host of others. It’s a background that sparkles throughout this offering, highlighting a confidence and purity bordering on greatness. This is a lady with a truly touching voice and a five-piece support band that rolls along delivering pure pleasure.

With a hand in the writing of each of the dozen songs here, Hyatt also shows her writing chops to be more than capable and distinctly delightful. For anyone looking for a new, funky blues lady with quality music and what must be a sparkling career ahead, Wild Heart could well be just the job to satisfy that demand.
