When they first started, Oasis made no secret of their love for the Beatles, from lyrical references to riffs that may have been, ahem, borrowed from the Lennon & McCartney songbook. Now, of course, the band are no more, and founding brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher are still sniping at each other in the press. It’s enough that one of their heroes, Paul McCartney, is calling for the pair to bury the hatchet.
McCartney was asked about the feuding Gallagher brothers in a Q&A with Japanese fans. His advice? “Just get together and make good music.” “I think a lot of people would like them to do it,” McCartney added. “But they have got to want to do it.”
For the time being, it seems as if neither brother wants to do it. Both Noel and Liam have taken swipes at each other in the past few years, over everything from Oasis reunion rumors (which Noel says are often started by Liam) to Noel’s solo record (which Liam criticized for having too much saxophone) and even One Direction (whom Liam defended after Noel made fun of them in a Rolling Stone interview.) Still, if Paul McCartney asks if you could all just get along, you’d at least consider it, wouldn’t you?
