There have always been actors who have sung, either solo or leading a band. Many of them should have stuck to acting, but actor Jeff Goldblum is not one of them. Taking the Sony Hall stage looking sharp in black pants, a one-of-a-kind (according to him) black and white jacket, black hat, black glasses and black and white shoes, Goldblum and the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra thoroughly—and colorfully—entertained the crowd. It is easy to tell how this talented performer loves being in front of a live audience.

Starting the evening with some movie trivia, the personable pianist had the audience laughing nonstop with his wit and charm. When the answer to one of the questions was the movie Carousel, he asked everyone to sing the song. Much to the audience’s delight, a woman in the front row took everyone by surprise with her wonderful voice. The fan turned out to be Shawna Hamic, from the hit Netflix show Orange Is The New Black, and she received a standing ovation. Between songs throughout the show, Goldblum offered more trivia games for the audience and told jokes, keeping everyone laughing.

Annie Ellicot joined the band for several numbers, including Irving Berlin’s “Let’s Face the Music and Dance,” which was arranged by band member Alex Frank. This jazz ensemble had all eyes and ears on him during the two-hour show.

Jeff Goldblum has been playing the piano since he was 10 years old and now, at age 67, he has released his second album in two years, living proof that truly creative folks follow their passions.
