The first album by The Velvet Underground is often cited as one of the greatest albums ever made. As a result, it’s getting the re-issue treatment that it deserves. Universal is re-releasing the seminal The Velvet Underground & Nico as a massive, six-disc box set on October 1st.

The re-issue will contain the original album in both stereo and mono, as well as Chelsea Girl, the debut album from titular German chanteuse. Disc 4 features alternate takes of the album’s songs transferred from an April 1966 acetate recording, and discs 5 and 6 feature a live performance of the band at the Valleydale Ballroom in Columbus, Ohio.
