First $50 Million From “12-12-12” Going out to Sandy Victims

If you didn’t witness last week’s “12-12-12” Hurricane Sandy Benefit, then you missed a show packed to the limits with musical talent. Here’s the stage-breaking roster of performers: the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Billy Joel, the Who, Bon Jovi, Eric Clapton, Eddie Vedder, Dave Grohl (who performed as part of Nirvana), Chris Martin, Alicia Keys and Kanye West. Two billion people had access to the event through the internet, TV and well—in person. Money came in through sponsorships, merch, online auctions of memorabilia, telephone and internet donations and advance orders of the forthcoming live album. The funds are being handled by the Robin Hood Foundation, which is steering the money towards organizations in the tri-state area that are aiding in the relief efforts after Sandy. Organizers haven’t yet announced how much the money night drew in, but the first $50 million is already being distributed to various groups who are helping those who need it.
