It seems that Jack White doesn’t appreciate the claims his former wife Karen Elson has made in their custody battle. Elson recently filed a restraining order against the singer, stating that White had been harassing her and was an unfit father. Elson’s attorney even requested that White be takin in for a custodial psychological evaluation. On Friday, White directly responded to Elson’s claims.
“The reason for filing this response is that Mr. White does not want to be portrayed as something he is not, violent toward his wife and children,” White’s countermotion reads.
The countermotion also refers to a series of emails from Elson to White in which she praises him as a father. “You’re an amazing father; I’m so glad we had these kids together,” Elson wrote to White in an email dated May 19, 2013.
As far as Elson’s call for a psychiatric exam, White’s attorney, Cathy Speers Johnson, called it “inflammatory … disingenuous, fraudulent and retaliatory and simply designed to malign him in the public record or to gain an upper hand in this litigation.”
Elson also claimed that she fears White because of his violent temper and prior harassment. However, the countermotion states that Elson left their children with White the day after she signed her restraining order affidavit as she took a 10-day “work/pleasure trip” to New York. She filed the motion requesting the psychiatric exam the next day. “One who was truly fearful of another would not leave their children alone with that person for 10 days,” says the countermotion. “The truth of the matter is that Ms. Elson is not fearful for herself or the parties’ minor children.”
White also claims that just last month, Elson told their mutual friend Dean Fertita of Dead Weather and Queens of the Stone Age, “I’m completely in love with Jack, and I’d move back in tomorrow if he asked me.” “This is not the statement of a woman who is concerned about the emotional stability of the father of their children or their safety when they are with him,” White’s response stated.
