Farm Aid was started in 1985 by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp. The festival’s purpose was to support the farmers in the USA. Besides the musical entertainment, farm stands were featured selling their wares. Every year, Farm Aid presents a big lineup. This year featured an exceptional lineup, including Willie Nelson and the Family Band, Jon Mellencamp , Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds, Margo Price, Tyler Childes, Nathaniel Rateliff, Bettye Lavette, Jamey Johnson, Lukas Nelson and Promise of Real, Allison Russell, Particle Kid (with Micah Nelson) and Ian Mellencamp.

The show, at the Xfinity Theatre, had many highlights. The music that revved up the audience most was Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds. Some of their songs were “Bartender, Save Me” and “Ants Marching.” But it was John Mellencamp who had the audience singing  every lyric to “Jack and Diane,” “Small Town” and “Crumbling Down.” My favorite, was Particle Kid, fronted by Micah Nelson, neon-dyed-hair son of Willie Nelson. They had the look and sound of a 60’s psychedelic band. They performed three tunes: “After the Goldrush,” “Everything is Bullshit” and “American Life.” Of course, the show ended with Willie Nelson and the Family Band.

Farm Aid 2021 has done its’ part in continuing the long-suffering agricultural community in America. In addition, all the artists who have participated have done their part in saving American Music!
