Kurt Cobain Movie Planned for 2014

Who doesn’t remember the impact of Nirvana’s Seattle-born grundge rock in an era of disillusioned teens and adults who sang along to “Aneurysm,” “Heart Shaped Box,” and of course, “Smells Like Teen Spirit”? And of course, at the forefront was the notorious anti-star who became immortalized equally for his hit music as he was for his own eccentricity and depression, that ultimately took him. So it’s no surprise that directors have continually tried to capture Kurt Cobain (at least in memory) on film. And it’s also no surprise that it’s such a daunting task, with many ways it could go wrong.

Nevertheless, the New York Post reports that filmmaker Brett Morgen is working on a documentary on the Nirvana frontman’s life. Morgen said that he and Courtney Love have been discussing the film since 2007. “We’ve been trying to find the right time to put this film together and the time is now,” Morgen said. Morgen plans to direct the film as a type of third-person autobiography, the kind of movie Kurt would make about himself if he were still around. If Morgen’s name sounds familiar to you, then you’ve probably heard of his latest project, Crossfire Hurricane, a Rolling Stones documentary that just aired for the first time on HBO last night. Morgen expects the Kurt Cobain documentary to be out in 2014.
